Billings, Montana – The Billings Police Department celebrated another successful Summer Kids Camp, giving young participants a full day of interactive activities while helping them learn more about law enforcement in a fun and welcoming environment.
Throughout the event, children had the opportunity to meet officers, ask questions, and take part in demonstrations designed to introduce them to the many different roles within the police department.
From the beginning of the camp, organizers said the excitement and enthusiasm shown by the children helped make the event a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Campers explore police equipment and specialized units
During the camp, participants rotated through several activities that gave them an up-close look at police work.
Children watched drone demonstrations, learned about SWAT operations, and met members of the department’s K9 unit, where they were introduced to the important work police dogs perform alongside officers.
Campers also explored crime scene investigation techniques, giving them a better understanding of how investigators gather evidence and solve cases. Another popular attraction featured the bomb squad, where children learned about specialized equipment and the responsibilities of officers who handle dangerous situations.
The event included plenty of opportunities for fun outside of the educational activities as well. Children attending the morning session enjoyed a pizza party, while those participating in the afternoon cooled off with popsicles after spending time outdoors during the summer heat.
Police officials said one of the most valuable parts of the camp was the chance for officers and volunteers to spend meaningful time with local children. Throughout the day, they focused on teaching, encouraging, and building positive relationships with the next generation.
The department also recognized the many volunteers and officers whose time and dedication helped make the event possible, expressing appreciation for their commitment to serving the community beyond their regular law enforcement duties.
Officials also thanked parents for placing their trust in the department and allowing their children to participate in the program.
The police department said seeing so many smiling faces throughout the day reinforced the importance of community engagement and creating positive interactions between officers and young people.
By the end of the camp, organizers said participants had created lasting memories while strengthening the connection between the Billings Police Department and the community it serves. As this year’s event came to a close, the department thanked everyone who attended and said it is already looking forward to welcoming campers back for another Summer Kids Camp next year.
