New Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter location opens doors for tours and public visit

Billings, Montana – Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter officials are inviting local leaders and community members to visit their new facility as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency, collaboration, and animal care services in the region. The shelter has extended a formal invitation to members of the City Council and Yellowstone County Commissioners to tour the new Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter site located at 5056 Jellison Rd., Unit 1.

The invitation reflects the shelter’s commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with city and county leaders while continuing its partnership in providing animal services to the community. Shelter representatives emphasized the importance of open communication as they transition operations and continue planning for a permanent facility.

Tours to highlight operations and best practices

During the tour, visitors will learn how the new site supports the shelter’s ability to operate in accordance with contract requirements while maintaining the high best-practice standards it follows for animal care and shelter management. Officials also plan to showcase how the temporary facility is fully operational and supporting daily services while long-term plans for a permanent home continue to move forward.

Two tour opportunities have been scheduled for local officials:

  • Saturday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m.

  • Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m.

Attendees are asked to RSVP and indicate which date they plan to attend to ensure there is not a quorum present at either tour.

Those unable to attend the scheduled tours will still have an opportunity to visit the facility. The shelter will host a public open house on March 7 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., allowing community members to view the space, learn about operations, and better understand the shelter’s role in animal welfare services.

In its invitation, the shelter expressed appreciation for continued collaboration with local government partners and emphasized its goal of strengthening services for animals and residents alike.

“We value open communication and transparency, and we appreciate the opportunity to maintain a strong working relationship moving forward.”

Shelter leaders say the new facility represents an important step in maintaining service continuity while building toward a permanent location. By opening its doors for tours and a public open house, Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter aims to keep stakeholders informed, foster trust, and highlight its commitment to high standards of care.

Officials said they look forward to welcoming city and county partners and members of the public as they continue working together to support animal welfare in Yellowstone County.
