Billings police warn residents about recent social security scam calls

Billings, Montana – The Billings Police Department has issued a warning to the community about a recent scam targeting residents. Scammers, posing as representatives from the “Social Security Office,” have been making fraudulent calls to individuals, attempting to obtain personal information under the guise of offering additional benefits.

According to a statement from Billings PD shared on Facebook Tuesday, these callers falsely claim to be from the Social Security Office and request personal details, supposedly to help recipients gain more benefits. However, the police department emphasizes, “The Social Security Office will NOT call and ask for this information.”

Residents are urged to remain vigilant. If you receive such a call, it’s important to recognize it as a scam. The Billings Police Department strongly advises against sharing any personal information over the phone in these situations. By staying informed and cautious, you can help protect yourself and your community from falling victim to these deceptive practices.
