Billings, Montana – The Billings Police Department is inviting residents to take a closer look at local law enforcement through its upcoming Citizen’s Police Academy, a free program designed to give participants a behind-the-scenes view of police work in the community.
Applications are now open for the Spring 2026 session of the academy, which will run for eight weeks beginning April 8, 2026, and concluding with graduation on May 27, 2026. Classes will meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the department’s training facility, known as the Police Barn, located at 4810 Midland Road.
A closer look at local law enforcement
The Citizen’s Police Academy was developed to help community members better understand the daily responsibilities and challenges faced by officers. Over the eight-week course, participants will explore different areas of law enforcement through presentations and hands-on activities.
Each weekly session focuses on a new aspect of policing, giving attendees insight into the work that goes into serving and protecting the Billings community. Organizers describe the academy as an engaging opportunity for residents who are active in the community and interested in learning more about public safety operations.
The department emphasizes that space in the program is limited, and applications will be accepted until the class is full. Officials encourage interested residents to apply early to secure a spot.
Participants will attend sessions at the Billings Police Department Training Facility, where they will interact with officers and gain practical knowledge about procedures, equipment, and decision-making in law enforcement.
For additional information or questions about the academy, residents can contact Sgt. Stovall at 406-208-5726 or by email at [email protected].
Community members interested in joining the Spring 2026 Citizen’s Police Academy are encouraged to complete the online application as soon as possible.
